From concept to creation, Alison Tordoff’s imaginative ideas re-created the Italian Riviera at Bowness in the Lake District. Now the designer’s work for Caffe Riva is under scrutiny as the restaurant heads for the Cumbria Tourism awards. Caffe Riva has been shortlisted for the New Tourism Business prize, and the judges will deliver their verdict at a ceremony next week.

The brain child of a Lakeland hotelier, Colin Monk and Cheshire-based restaurateur, Alex Mauro, the Caffe Riva concept draws its inspiration from the simplicity, quality and elegance of all things Italian. Translated literally as ‘bank’ or ‘shoreline’, the Riva is an iconic Italian Lake boat whose timeless beauty and grace are evocative of the halcyon dolce vita era.

Caffe Riva has been brought to life by award winning interior designer Alison, who runs Fidget Design, with boat deck flooring, elegant curves and signature colours subtly reference the floating Italian masterpiece. The menu and wine list continue the theme of simplicity and elegance and offer the diner a true taste of Italy.

Said Alison: “It was a dream challenge to bring Italy to life here in the Lake District .  I am thrilled that Caffe Riva has reached the finals of this award.”
